Bayonet

A blade fitted to the muzzle of a musket, allowing the firearm to double as a spear-like weapon after firing. Naval boarding parties and marine detachments on privateers used bayonet-fitted muskets to press an attack once shots had been exchanged. It gave infantry-style close-combat capability to firearms-equipped boarders.
