A forward-curving, single-edged Ottoman blade without a handguard, carried by Ottoman soldiers, sailors, and irregular fighters including some Barbary and Aegean corsairs. Its unusual forward curve concentrated force at the tip for a chopping draw-cut. It was often worn thrust through a sash rather than in a belt scabbard.
