A general Malay and Bornean term for a heavy chopping blade, used by Iban and other Bornean sea raiders active along the coasts and river mouths of Borneo. Like the related golok, it served double duty as an agricultural tool and boarding weapon. Its use persisted among Southeast Asian coastal communities well into the 19th century.
