Ingela Gathenhielm was a Swedish privateer who ran privateering operations alongside, and later after the death of, her husband Lars Gathenhielm, who held a royal license to raid enemy shipping during the Great Northern War. After his death in 1718, she took over and expanded the enterprise, becoming known as ‘the Shipping Queen.’ She retired after the 1720-1721 peace treaties ended Swedish privateering.
