Naval Boarding Axe

A short-hafted axe with a hammer or spike on the reverse of the blade, used both to hack through rigging and boarding nets and as a close-quarters weapon. Standard issue aboard many naval and merchant vessels, it doubled as a practical tool for cutting away damaged rigging during battle. Its dual utility made it a fixture of boarding parties on both sides of a fight.
