Frigate
Frigates were fast, medium-sized warships carrying a single gun deck, combining speed with enough firepower to fight on relatively even terms with larger ships. Privateersmen and successful pirates who captured well-armed prizes often refitted them as frigates, and naval frigates were the mainstay of anti-piracy patrols.
