    Falchion

    A single-edged, cleaver-like blade used across medieval Europe, including by North Sea and Baltic sea raiders of the 14th and 15th centuries. Its heavy, forward-weighted blade delivered powerful chopping strikes suited to close combat aboard ship. It fell out of common use as rapiers and hangers became more fashionable in the 16th and 17th centuries.
