Turgut Reis, known as Dragut, was an Ottoman corsair and admiral who served under Hayreddin Barbarossa and later became Bey of Algiers and Pasha of Tripoli. Regarded by contemporaries as among the most formidable Barbary corsairs, he led numerous raids and naval victories across the Mediterranean. He was killed by cannon fire during the 1565 Great Siege of Malta.
